- I suggest clicking ‘keep reading’ at the bottom. Cmon. I swear by Jay Onrait that it does get funnier as it goes on and there are plenty of picture links in the text and youtube vids spiced thoughout. Oh yeah. You children of the internet love that.
- American National Anthem sung by lovely little Black Fellow.
- The Rangers come out swinging: Avery and Antropov with great chances within the first minute. Good thing for Antropov: he has been invisible. 3 goals in 34 career playoff games.
- I hope Varlamov wins, I love a feel good story about a goaltender coming out of nowhere in the playoffs.
- TSN flashes a graphic stating Washington’s all time game seven record is 1-5. Also that there has not been a lead change in a game since game 1. The first goal seems pretty damn important.
- Rangers offside. About 3 minutes in and no washington shots on goal.
- The Verizon Center staff have assembled clear vertical plastic shafts that totally seal the glass together behind the rangers bench. That should keep Torts in his cage.
- 5 minutes in, still not a washington shot. Somewhere, Barak Obama is crying.
- Antropov scores! Saw this coming. Complete defensive breakdown for the caps. Avery and Antropov are looking great together on the same line. Still not a shot for Washington. Somewhere, Michelle Obama is crying.
- Have not heard Ovechkin’s name once yet tonight. Eric Fehr on the other hand? three times. There’s your probrem.
- Fedorov was the puck carrier in on a two on one. He opted to pass and it got intercepted. With no shots on goal 9 minutes into the game, take the bloody shot.
- First commercial break: 1) Torts has not been ejected yet, c’mon fans in the phonebooth, get on em! 2) The caps look horrible 3) With an early goal against Varlamov, whatever psychological block was in the rangers’ heard when it came to the mysterious goaltender is now gone.
- Hold it against me, but I really enjoy Ray ‘chicken parm’ Ferarro. His call on this incident in particular solidified his place in my heart (particularly since he was on the same team as ‘worst number one pick in history’ patrik stefan). “That’s the most rediculous thing I have ever Seen. Patrik Stefan you should be embarrassed for what you just did” – be sure to wait for the Rogers version of the broadcast in the youtube video, rather than the FSN southwest.
- Caps cant even get out of their own zone, let alone through the neutral zone. Interesting stat: Chris Drury has never lost a first round playoff series…he is 7-0. With goals like this, I’m not surprised: (Check out all those Buffalo fans in AND outside of the arena too. I love when that team does well)
- Caps finally make something happen and get a PP. Antropov for high sticking. Caps are 6 for 31 in the series.
- Washington’s Green takes a goaltender interference penalty just as it looked like the caps would get a shot on goal. 6:39 left in the first. TSN says the in arena scoreboard states the caps have 1 shot on goal, but I have not seen it. The stat judge was being generous.
- Somewhere, Ted Leonsis is crying.
- On the rush following Green’s penalty, Semin ties up the game! Crazy deflection from Semin’s shot. Apparently Lundqvist’s save percentage is now .500, but I think he is squarely 0 for 1. Leonsis has stopped crying.
- Presently, the CBC is showing Just for Laughs Gags! I wonder what the ratings comparison between TSN and CBC is at the moment…..
- Replacing some broken glass at the end boards. Thoughts: Only children and women behind Torts tonight. I wonder if that was by design. Where are the drunks and hooligans?
- This glass change is taking forever. In the other game 7, Ruutu has just scored for Carolina to make the score 1-0 early in the first.
- The puck just isn’t finding Ovechkin in this period, which is now in the books. The Caps look like life is returning to them though.
- Second period starts. Gomez, the latin American from Alaska has lost his helmet. sweet.
- Lundqvist just stood on his head against Ovechkin, Kozlov, and company. Some chances for the caps early in the period.
- For a laugh, check out the New York Rangers on NHLnumbers.com: link. Haha, Redden.
- Mmmmm, Sara Orlesky. I’m more of a J Hedge man though.
- A lot of frantic scrambles in the crease this period = entertaining.
- Green just went HARD into the end boards. His brain is scambled eggs now.
- Guys from other lines are having to tell Ovechkin before faceoffs that he isnot supposed to be on the ice at the moment. Where’s my mind.
- I’m just going to say it: Semin has a funny name.
- Aside from those mentioned, not many penalties in this game. 6 min to go in the second, shots now 13 – 9 for the Rangers.
- HAha, some other fans behind the rangers bench are wearing plastic rain ponchos! Obviously a jab at Torts throwing a waterbottle into the crowd (though I have not seen video evidence of this). It is like they are attending a bloody fricken Gallagher show in the first row.
- Ferraro: “The Capitals changed two centreman while Ovechkin was on the ice…that’s 52 seconds too long”. As soon as OV loses his legs a bit, he is going to become such an ordinary player. His style relies not on thinking the game (Lidstrom, Swedes in general), but on forcing the game athletically, and that can’t last years and years.
- Funny, that Semin plays in the same city that the Washington monument is in. LoL. Annnnd that’s the end of the second. 1-1.
- TSN cuts to TSN2, and a Ray Whitney goal is under review for a Distinct Kicking Motion! The Wizard shot the puck and it went off his own skate. It is called a good goal. The game is tied 2-2.
- On TSN2: I live in a region where Rogers is the digital cable provider. They love promoting SportsNet. To get TSN1 I have to buy a crazy upgraded package. To get TSN2 I’d probably have to give them my firstborn. Christ. Come off yourselves Rogers: Sportsnet is not Canada’s best cable sports network, so make TSN2 available to more homes more easily.
- Start of the third period. Giradi just took a penalty for interferring with ovechkin with a hip check.
- Lundqvist has made 2 great saves thus far during this PK. You will see the kick save, in particular, later on SportsCentre. The blade of his skate deflects the puck away. Penalty now over.
- Capitals now lead in shots for the first time in the game. 15-14.
- CBC has a great program on right now: ‘Montreal Canadiens Tribute’. Currently interviewing Sam Roberts about his thoughts on the great Canadian animated short “The Hockey Sweater’. I’ve set up my DVR to record this as I watch the rest of the game. I suggest everyone watch it…the 2 minutes I have just watched were amazing.
- Three BIG hits in the last 30 seconds. Love playoff hockey.
- First time I have heard Naslund’s name: 10:44 left in the third period.
- goaltending has been the story: kudos to both the Swede and the Russian.
- Gord Miller “We are in next shot wins territory” – 6 minutes left in the 3rd. As I say, I love playoff hockey.
- SERGEI FEDOROV with a beautiful shot off a beautiful rush. He carried it over the blueline with ovechkin on his wing. He stopped up, gaining space from the defender, and just shot the perfect wrist shot as if it was 1996! Reminds me of his Detroit days!
46. Fantastic Lundqvvvvist chant taking over the Verizon centre.
- 1:50 left in the 3rd!
- Things are getting a little intttense.
- Avery is down, his hand is hurt. Ferarro now – later – says it is possibly a Charlie Horse.
- 30 seconds left, faceoff in the rangers zone, lundqvist cant get out of the net! The fans are going nuts. Time out New York. My Fuck!
- shot of Leonsis…his tears have dried.
- 10 seconds left and Lundy can’t get out of the net!
- That’s the game! The caps have won game 7! Go back to nhlnumbers.com and check out those Drury, Gomez, Lundqvist, and Redden contracts. Lol.
- Awesome on-ice interview with Ovechkin by Sara Orlesky. You can tell he just wants to get to celebrating with the fans and his team, but he answers the questions. He is too excited to bother focusing on how to articulate English. Every third word is understandable. OV is great!
- I close this with saying that it is 3-2 NJ with 19 minutes in the third. later.

Great minute by minute analysis. Hilarious, insightful, and love the shot of Federov with the babe.
not bad, this insightful analysis is helping me heal from the swine flu
check into star choice. I get TSN2 without having even asked for it.
