Windsor: Stand Proud

The Windsor Spitfires downed host Rimouski Oceanic Thursday night to qualify for the Memorial Cup Semi-Finals. Should the Spits win tonight against Drummondville, then they would face Kelowna in the final.

Dale Mitchell, a Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick, scored 3 goals in the 3rd period over a 3:33 time span for a natural hat trick. His favourite number is 4.

From Jeff Hale via The New York Times:

The Windsor Spitfires may have needed to reach a certain level of desperation to figure out how to play in the Memorial Cup.

Dale Mitchell of the Spitfires scored three consecutive goals in 3 minutes 33 seconds to help Windsor overhaul a two-goal deficit in the third period and give the Spitfires a 6-4 victory over the host Rimouski Océanic in the tie-breaker game on Thursday night. Maybe it was his playoff moustache. That’s right, no playoff beard for Mitchell. He went with the ’stache. But maybe he could get his pants stitched.

The Spits were down by 4-2 heading into the third but there was no drama in the Windsor dressing room during the second intermission. That may have been because the players knew of the third-period surge to come. The Océanic must have expected it, too, but if they did, they had little left to stop it. Even Coach Clément Jodoin’s rabbit trick of measuring the stick of goalie Andrew Engelage late in the game failed.
