Q and A With Alexander Semin

My Time For Russia

It was tough Olympic tournament for the Russian national hockey team that ended with a disappointing loss in the quarterfinals. After being considered heavy favourites for gold, the mighty Russians never even got the chance to play for a medal and left a hockey crazed country in turmoil. Alex Semin, one of the top guns on that superstar loaded team spoke to DKM on his flight back to Washington after a 3-1 win over the Sabres Wednesday night.

DKM: Hi Alex, thanks for taking the time to speak with us. How is the flight?

AS: Good it is. The Plane fly fast and extreme, but I sit and think in my mind. I mostly relax, but eat when feeling the hungry.

DKM: How was your Olympic experience?

AS: The Olympic times were strong and tough. I enjoy many days of fun times with teammates and Russia girls that I kiss. Lots of Russia girls like me when I play the hockey but once we lose they disappear. Girls from other places like me too and say they like the good looks and fast skating, but I mostly shoot.

The girls like me to be fast and shoot

DKM: Yeah that was a pretty tough game against Canada. Any idea of what went wrong in that game?

AS: Yes, I remember my ideas very much. We thought we would beat them easily because we watch them lose to American team, but they play more fast and danger than before. They liked to hit us hard, but also use their smarts and take no penalty time. We didn’t do enough fast skating and I didn’t do enough of the shooting. Me, other Alex and Evgeni don’t pass to each person which make us lose on the score.

DKM: That line was thought to be the most dangerous in the tournament, was it perhaps a lack of chemistry that made it tough?

AS: I think the chemicals stay together but we just wouldn’t score. Against Czech’s we make all beautiful scores. After Alex hit the Jagr, puck come to me and I place it to Evgeni for the goal, but against Canada we do none of that.

Me and friend teammate

DKM: Any comment on the incident with Dan Boyle? You laid a pretty good hit on him and then he retaliated with a slew-foot. Do you think he should have been suspended?

AS: I check him in the clean way but he get very much angry. He chase after me and lower me to the ice from behind. I think he should be suspend for some time but instead he play and shoot to gold.

DKM: Many people have said that you didn’t have a very good tournament, care to defend that?

AS: It is true. I score many of the goals in NHL. More than 30 times I do the score for Capitals, but in Olympics I didn’t find enough of the puck. I try to be big and do all of the shooting but it never happen on time.

DKM: Was poor goaltending a big factor in the loss to Canada?

AS: We start the Shark goalie but he let in too many pucks so we switch to the Coyote. He falter too so we get no chance of making the comeback. Our time was to be the end.

DKM: With the Olympics behind you, what can you look forward to for the rest of the season with the Caps?

AS: The time is now for us to talk to the Stanley. We get two new players for team today. They are big and Canadian and will help to defense the other skaters. Me, other Alex and the Backstrom usually do most of the scores, so we look for more help from different shooters. I shoot most but look for the help.

DKM: Many experts are picking you guys to win the Cup. Do you think this will be the year that the Caps go all the way?

AS: This can be the year for the Cup. We are the first and biggest team and look for the improving. Me and number 8 Alex can be the best skaters and shooters. We are much fast snd strong to be skated upon so no one can play the defense. We pass together and do the dangles. This is the year of the Capitals.

DKM: Thanks Alex. Enjoy the rest of the flight and good luck tomorrow night.

AS: I welcome the time and look to be the best on plane.

I am big and tan
